Eli's Legacy
Webster defines "legacy" as "a gift or bequest, something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor". Although Eli was only with us a short time he did leave some things behind.
To my Mother I leave the joy of experiencing pregnancy and childbirth, holding me and seeing me squirm to snuggle closer at the sound of your loving voice.
To my Dad I leave the lesson that life is fragile and conception is a miracle. I looked like you, Dad, everyone says so. I left you with a stronger love for and desire to have children. I taught you how much love a heart can really hold by filling yours up with love for me.
To my future siblings I leave life. Through the circumstances of my death you can now live. Because of your older brother the doctors now know that Mom needs stitches in her cervix so she can carry you all to full term. Mom and Dad are good and loving parents. Always appreciate them.
To my Aunts and Uncles I leave a thank you for all the comfort and loving attention you gave my Mom and Dad after I left. Thank you for the warm blankets and soft toys you gave me to take on the trip.
To my Grandparents I leave the reassurance that love and concern for others can build the brigde that heals the hurts of the past. Thank you Gran'ma and Gran'pa Merritt for letting me use one of Dad's old baby blankets. It should keep me real warm just like it kept my Dad warm when he was small.
To my Great Grandparents I leave ... a big smile that says "Always remember I love you and so does my new friend, Jesus."
See you soon - Elijah Logan Merritt
